A turbulent rafting trip down one of the world's wildest navigable rivers, the mighty Zambezi in Zimbabwe, tests the author's mettle, bring her face to face with her weakness.

Merri Melde's inspired narration of this short story provides a thrilling and terrifying ride for readers on this white-water adventure.

The Mighty Zambezi Traveler Tales eBook Merri Melde

I write as one who has been rafting on the Zambezi twice and taken my wife and my daughter and a mixture of people and I was disappointed in the focus only on the author's panic. What in the world did she expect when she embarked on this course? Her panic becomes the only lens for her experience and there is no description of the Batoka Gorge, the warmth of the water, the beauty of the black basalt rocks that form such an amazing backdrop even before the paddling starts. Irrational fear grips this author, and while I am sympathetic to her as a person, this review is about the writing as a vehicle for communicating this once in a lifetime experience. In this respect her account fails to capture the unique glory of this place in God's creation. I realize fear robbed her of a full awareness of her privilege in accessing a place that before David Livingstone was known only to a tiny percentage of the world's population, but we got nothing of the wonder that I believe a traveler owes the audience who will not be granted such a rare view of a glorious setting.

The Mighty Zambezi Traveler Tales eBook Merri Melde Reviews

This is another eloquently written adventure that had me holding my breath and my heart racing as the words put me right on the river with the author.
This book(let) is probably a pretty accurate representation of what it would feel like for 90% of us were we to find ourselves in Africa riding the Zambezi. Thanks, Merri Melde for documenting raw terror. Next time I'm in Africa, I think I'll book a safari and skip the whitewater rapids.
Described exactly how many of us handle the adventures we throw ourselves into. Honest and unashamed narrative. Inspiring in a humble way -)
